This article explains how user access works in Sales Layer, where to manage users, and a recommended way to assign permissions using role patterns.
Where to manage users
User management is available from the dropdown menu in the top right corner, as shown below.

If you do not see any Manage Users option, you probably do not have permission to manage users. In that case, ask your Account Admin or contact Support if you need these permissions enabled.
How users and permissions work in Sales Layer
Depending on your account setup, you can have multiple users with different privilege levels and permissions.
- The main user, or highest privilege level, can create and edit other users from the user management area.
- Permissions can be granted by area, such as Products, Variants, Categories, and Custom Entities. In most cases, you can choose whether the user can view only or also edit.
- If you do not grant permission to an area, such as the Quality report, the user will not be able to see or access it.

Create a new user
Once you are in the user management area:
- Open Users from the Manage Users section.
Option 1: Add a new user
Use this option when the person does not already exist as a user in Sales Layer.
- Click Add new user.
- Fill in:
- First name
- Last name
- Email address
- Assign permissions and the appropriate privilege level.
- Save.
After creating the user, the platform will guide you through the access setup. Depending on your configuration, you may either set a password directly or the user may receive an email to create it.
Option 2: Import an existing user
Use this option when the person already has a Sales Layer user in another company.
- From the Users page, open Add user or Actions.
- Select Import existing users.
- Enter the user’s email address.
- Assign the permissions and privileges for your company.
- Save.
Edit a user's permissions
- Go to Users.
- Click the user you want to edit.
- Select the permissions you want to add or remove.
- Click Update data to save the change.

Privilege rules
These two rules are important:
- A user with a higher privilege level can edit users with a lower level, but not the other way around.
- A user cannot edit their own privileges.
Permission groups you may see
When assigning permissions, you may see groups like these.
Area permissions
- Products
- Variants
- Categories
- Custom Entities
- Points of sale
For each area, you can usually choose view and edit.
Quality
- Access to the Quality report. If this permission is not granted, the user cannot access it.
Services
- Access to image tools, if available.
- Permission to order automatic translations using the Google Translate integration, if available.
Management
- Access to general company information.
- Billing and payment settings.
- Ability to manage multiple companies, if available.
Best practices
- Start with a small set of roles, then refine them by team.
- Give edit rights only in the areas where the user is expected to maintain data.
- Be careful with billing and company management permissions.
- Review permissions again after onboarding, once you can see what users really need in their day-to-day work.
